No Artist – Sounds Of Insects
LP, 1960, USA, Folkways Records, FX 6178
Incl. original liner notes sheet. Library sticker on label.
Buzzing doesn’t begin to cover the sounds made by the approximately one million species of insects in the world today. This album, recorded and narrated by Albro T. Gaul, includes samples of butterflies and dragonflies in flight, flies caught on flypaper, Japanese beetles on a rose, and insects walking and chewing. In the narration and the liner notes, Gaul provides information about each insect and sound. One interesting fact provided by Gaul is that counting a cricket’s chirps for fifteen seconds and adding forty to the total number of chirps will give you the current temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit). Through facts such as this one, Sounds of Insects provides a closer look and listen to the oft-overlooked world of insects that surrounds us.
